Bankstown Airport Welcomes Government Approval Of Its Master Plan
Bankstown Airport welcomed the announcement by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, approving the Draft Master Plan.
"Bankstown Airport is pleased the Draft Master Plan has been approved with Minister Anderson acknowledging the extensive public consultation undertaken by the Airport in preparing the Draft Master Plan,” said Mr Kim Ellis, Chief Executive Officer, BAC Airports.
"The Master Plan is a high level planning document for the Airport over the next 20 years. The Master Plan aims to maintain Bankstown Airport’s reputation as Australia’s premier General Aviation Airport and build on its substantial contribution to the local economy,” said Mr Ellis.
The Master Plan proposes to make more efficient use of the land to deliver better outcomes for aviation and other uses at the Airport, and the Airport Environment Strategy, which was approved in February, will ensure this is done with full regard to our custodial responsibilities for the site.
"We will maintain our program of community consultation through the continuation of the Bankstown Airport Community Consultative Forum (BACCF) and through our regular community updates.”
"In response to the Minister’s comments, we will continue to work with local governments on flood management strategies and to manage the impact of future airport development on the local road network,”stated Mr Ellis.
The approval of the Master Plan will allow commercial and industrial development on the site over the next 20 years that will add at least another 10,000 jobs to Bankstown and Western Sydney, and has the potential to generate significant economic growth in the area.
Key features of the Master Plan include:
- Reorganisation the land into use zones – creating an aviation zone with a commercial zone, buffering aviation activity from the adjoining residential areas along Marion Street
- The release of over 100 hectares of Development Land on the boundaries of the airport, not required for aviation activities, for commercial and industrial development
- Revised ANEF (Australian Noise Exposure Forecasts) contours which allow Bankstown City Council greater flexibility in approving developments around the Airport
- Revised Helicopter south flight paths in response to residents concerns
- Introduction of limited ‘niche’ regular passenger transport of up to 12 movements per day
- Changes to runway configuration – closure of Runway 18/36 due to limited utilisation and extension of Runway 11C/29C to allow aircraft that can currently use Bankstown Airport to do so more efficiently
- Strong commitment to maintenance of growth of skilled aviation businesses
- The continuation of the Bankstown Airport Community Consultative Forum (BACCF)
- Security upgrades in line with the Federal Government’s requirements with a new risk based security review.
Copies of the Master Plan and Environment Strategy are available on our website – www.bankstownairport.com.au and for purchase on CD-Rom for $10 from the Bankstown Airport Management Centre.
